Two down, one more to go.

I was awakened by my ringing phone this morning just to find out that a friend was looking for a wedding photographer. It's the third trip to the aisle for my buddy and he is just those type that can't stay single for very long. He was divorced 3 years ago to a nurse and this time around to another nurse.

His likes single moms and he too is a single dad so there you go. I would think after a couple of unsuccessful marriages someone would have learned their lesson. They met online and after a couple of months of long distance chatting and a couple of "family" dates - where he meets her family and she meets his family - he decided that all is well and marriage is in line. Two freaking months and he is getting married. I told him as long as its his heart and not his dick telling him to marry this girl it's okay. He said it's both. LOL

The gal from what he said, has a house, a nurse, and a cutie from Indonesia. Based on my Indonesian experience, girls from that country are uglies. His 2nd ex-wife from Korea was also an ugly so his taste differs from mine. The wedding is set for April and he has ordered a ring and arranged for a church. Her dad's a minister so her invitation list is 200 person long and his is 5 person short. A normal wedding.

Here's the catch, he hasn't proposed yet. "but she knows we are leading to that conclusion"
What ever, life is short, live it. If I get lucky I get a gig and get to eat well. I hope this one works for him.

Computers...I don't get it.

It must be the planets alignment as weird things have happened to my computers. My VAIO laptop has Mozilla Firefox loaded on it as a browser. Well, it decided to just reconfigure itself during the night and I lost all bookmarks and search engines. I reloaded the program after failing to figure out what happened. It's good I have enough brain cells left to remember some of my favorite sites.

On the positive side, I reconnected my Linksys wireless router and it started to work again. I hope it stays on. I tried it on my older Vaio laptop and it will not connect on the linksys even if my wireless port is a linksys too. Ah, the challenges of home network withe different XP versions and even windows 98 SE on my even older computer.

I found a wireless card for my 1998 Compaq desktop for cheap in Target. It runs on windows 98 and after half a day of configuration, the damn computer keep crashing, I was able to make it communicate with the Verizon wireless modem. The card that goes to the Compaq was inserted at the back of the unit so the antenna doesn't extend high enough. The signal was weak. Having the Linksys router with two antennas and wider range, the Campaq's antenna was able to connect well. The only problem is that I have to turn off the firewall program. I don't think they are compatible as the firewall program is much older software and an upgrade is no longer supported on the older operating system.

The Compaq is now wireless, awesome. 9 year old computer and it still works. Why do people get rid of their old computer? They don't have the time to fuck around. LOL. I do. It's fun to upgrade computers. It doesn't cost much and it's nostalgic to use old software and hardware.

I just need to figure out how to keep the OS, Windows 98 SE, stable. It takes several hard boot to get it going, a total waste of time.

I wish I can do the same with the old Mac G4. There are just not enough upgrade hardware for them in Target. Oh well, it is good as it is anyway. I upgraded the hard drive years ago and that's about it. With the new Intel Duo chips, support for the older systems will be gone too. Just another computer for nostalgia purpose.

YouTube gets it all.

A month ago, I was told to publish some of my jokes in youtube. I question this strategy based upon others copying my material. My concerns were valid. When you upload video to youtube, you release them a license that lets them do what they please with it. They can sell it, remix it, publish it, without informing you.

So, think twice before giving up all your talent and material for free.

A week off.

I was cancelled for overtime last Wednesday so just to make things better i called in sick the next day. This makes for a week off. Our pay period starts on Friday so technically I worked 2 days during the time period. Just to make things even interesting, I went to work the day I called in sick to make sure I get paid for the paid time off (PTO). My boss didn't care, she knew that nurses have bad back. She said she has a couple of herniated disks herself. I usually complain about my sciatica pain at work. This way I'm not expected to lift the fatso patients.

I always have something chronic I complain about at work so people will feel sorry for me when I call in sick. Asthma, sciatica pain, back pain and pneumonia are my usual complaints. unfortunately I've had them before in the past.

Nursing is not an easy career. Specially when pain in the asses patients are involved, I wish I was doing something else. Control freaks are the worst. They think they are the only patients and they want Marriott type of service. It's freaking rehab people not a freaking vacation in the Carribean. We are in freaking Pomona, Ca. Far from any resort island. LOL.

I heard from the grape vine that the Dept of Health Services is coming for an inspection next Monday. Whoop dee doo. That is always fun. The inspectors walk around asking serious questions on how to use equipments and what ever else they want to ask. In my 11 years of nursing I have never been asked. I was told they are back to see if Pharmacy has straightened their problems out. The news I've heard is that they have not done anything to fix the problem. The former pharmacist left a couple of months ago. The pharmacist in our hospital is an outside contractor so I don't see how the hospital can fix the problems when no one is personally accountable with the department. I really don't care. Not my department.

Work in the rehab is pretty easy. I just need to get used to the annoying patients who don't want to be there. We have case managers who seek out patients for rehab. Sometimes their choices are not the hottest. They pick out this elderly woman for rehab. She didn't want to move, she wanted to die and she will not participate in rehab. Eating was too much for her and she just plainly doesn't want to live. She tells everyone she wanted to meet her creator. I took care of her for 2 days and I was off for 2 days. When i came back she was gone. Apparently, she died during her sleep.

Another elderly man had the same problem. He didn't want to do rehab, only drinks Ensure and suffers from diarrhea. His wife comes over to yell at the staff. She accused me of not doing my job. Everything we've done was wrong. I told her if she knew so much why don't she do it herself. I called the supervisor on her. Her poor caretaker rolls her eyes every time she had a fit of bad behavior. I felt sorry for her as this might be the only job she got. The poor guy was a minister according to the misbehaving wife. I don't know what kind of minister, maybe the minister of pain.

Okay time to enjoy this days off. Hmm I'm going bowling.

The Boot. (fwd from the internet)
Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots? He asked for help and she could see why.

Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the little boy said, "Teacher, they're on the wrong feet." She looked, and sure enough, They were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than It was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet. He then announced, "These aren't my boots."

She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, "Why didn't you say so?", like she wanted to. Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said, "They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear 'em." Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But, she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.

Helping him into his coat, she asked, "Now, where are your mittens?" He said, "I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots."

She will be eligible for parole in three years.

Jeez, what kinda weather is this?

It is freezing here in So. Cal. So far, the winter has been mild almost spring like. Friday morning it started raining and in some places there were hail storms. Fontana reported snow! My heater is working full time. My gas bill was 3 digits last month, it will be again. Going out this morning for breakfast was a bit unpleasant. I don't like cold weather, my skin is sensitive to cold air. It dries it up really bad.

I went out again for dinner and the air was just dry and cold. I'm wearing my down jacket and I can't blame mother nature for providing ducks with feathers, it's really a godd insulation. The cold also makes me feel sick. I have this heavy nose and breathing feeling when it gets cold.

BTW, it's my bday today ad I'm considered middle aged. Title of tito, uncle, kuya are common another decade and it will be tatang and lolo as I have cousins with children already, making me a grandfather.

F-14 Tomcat retired.

I was channel surfing last night and saw a special of Modern Marvels. It was the retirement of the F14 Tomcat. I remember the 1986 movie TopGun where they showed a lot of F-14 maneuvers. The F-14 is my favorite fighter jet followed by the F-16 a light weight fighter.

The Navy will replace the F-14 with the F/A-18.

80 degree weather plus Santa Ana Winds equals Malibu Fire.

Four mansions gone as wildfires rages in Malibu. It doesn't matter if it's winter here in So. Calif. Fires can occur at any time. Today's incident was reminiscent of the fire 10 years ago. A total of 9 homes were involved and four burned to the ground. Open gas lines makes the fire fighting difficult. Pets are also missing. Tough day in Malibu. Who said the rich have no problem?

USC declawed Wolverettes 32-18.

The first half of this game was so boring I went to see Dreamgirls. Now that is a movie. Go see it in the theater because I doubt anybody's home theater will do it justice.

Back to the game. As I said I missed the second half as the relatives at my aunt's house was not interested with the game. They want to see the movie and ride my Benz. So, I indulged them and treated them for the movie.

I stayed up for the 10 oclock news just to see the sports segment and ofcourse it was the last part of the news, I stayed up an extra hour to hear news I didn't care about. The USC coverage was less than a minute long. KTVU San Francisco sucks. The news delivery was lame and boooooring. Jeeez, fire these people and get livelier ones.
