Happy birthday dad.

Back to work and guess who I found?

I called in my registry and made myself available for work yesterday. I was assigned to a new hospital in south El Monte. It was a new hospital for me. The hospital is actually old and a single story community hospital. It was homey and relaxed.

The day just started and to my surprise I saw a former director of ER where I used to work. I knew her because she was the one that caused a lot of grief and despair for ICU nurses in Intercommunity hospital. We used to float to the ER where the staff nurses treated us like crap. We later found out that if there was a bus load of ER nurses who applied for an ER job, no one will get hired as there was no opening available. This info came from the V.P. of human resources. She rather have us float than to hire new nurses. New nurses means she will not meet her budget. Meeting the budget means a handsome bomus.

As ICU nurses walked out of the job as they were floated to the ER, the resentment among the staff grew. It got so bad that a meeting was called and management even suggested that those who walks out gets punished. They were told that the nurses will quit and get a job in less than a day. The floating to ER was cancelled and everyone was happy again.

This ER director was either fired or asked to leave. She left and she was history. Until yesterday. I told the staff that I knew her but she wasn't making eye contact after she saw me. Well, she is now the director of ICU and ER at South El Monte Hospital. I told them what she did there and their eyes lit up. One of the nurse said that they sensed that there is somethng fishy about her. So there goes another director's reputation.

One nurse told me that their director makes rounds three times a day. Since I was there, she didn't show up at all. When she did showed up, she was bossing people around. blah blah blah...do this, do that. What a fucker, she doesn't know what she is doing. Directors of nursing just move around different hospitals around a 50 mile radius.

During the night shift report, a nurse from Good Samaritan in LA told me that they are hiring and the sign on bonus is $12,000. Hmm, I wonder what is wrong with the place. She told me that people just don't stay after they get their bonus.

VICTORY!

A friend just called to tell me that they won the vote to have the California Nurses Association to represent them as a bargaining unit. Congratulations to all the nurses in Intercommunity Hospital in Covina.

20th Anniversary of the Challenger disaster.

It's been twenty years. I can still remember when an Air Force cadet came rushing into my Aerodynamics class. She approached our professor for permission to make a public announcement. Tearyfully and almost sobbing, she announced that the Space Shuttle Challenger was lost a few minutes after launch. She thanked the professor and took of running. I felt a lump in my throat and thinking, "I'm screwed" After a few months, the Air Force cancelled the order for 5 space shuttles. Now I'm really screwed.

Here's a nice website about the 20th anniversary of the disaster.

The Raven
RAVEN - Your daemon may be a member of the crow
family. You are intelligent, observant, and
gregarious. Just as a crow or raven picks
shiny objects out of the dirt, you pick up
tidbits of information or ideas and store
them away. You have a good sense of humour,
but sometimes lose patience with people who
are antipathic to your nature. You are swift
to alert others when you find the truth, and
you have no tolerance for those who would
hide it.

Sarge's changing behaviour.

Ever since I left my dog at the kennel his bahaviour has changed. He no longer whines about being with me in my bedroom. He likes destroying his pee pee pad, and spreading kaka all over the place. I don't punish him at all with the elimination problem. I guess he wants to go out to do it and he is showing me how he feels about it. He turned 1 yr old this month. Like me, he is a capricorn. I actually see myself in him.

I took him out two days ago and he ran all over my front yard and my neighbors front yard. My neighbor on the other side showed up from work and Sarge rashed on over to him hopping and skipping. He then bowed down and G went ahead to pat his head. His tailed was wagging all this time. He then ran around in circles making playful sounds. He will be huffing and puffing from all the excitement of being outside the yard. He no longer have the scared look when he goes out.

One day he got a hold of a whole roll of paper towels. He had ripped it apart to form a bed of torn paper towels. I was furious but then realized it was my fault leaving it within his reach. I took a deep breath and all the bad feelings just released. I later found it funny that a dog can do this to entertain himself.

I've been off a few days so I was able to catch him from doing his bad ways. Prevention is the key. Hopefully, with proper training, he can tell me when he wants to go out to do his business.

I opened the door to a window salesman yesterday. He told me that my windows are not fuel efficient and next thing I know I have an appointment to see his nephew on Sat at 10 in the morning.

After a visit to Costco and Barnes and Noble, my two greatest weaknesses, I got a phone call from the the salesman and that his nephew will be in my area to show me the windows. It was good for me but I told him I need to be in bed by 9 because I wake up at 4 in the morning.

After measuring the windows and showing me what a double pane windows with argon gas does as insulator, I was sold to the fact the my windows suck. They saw the heavy draft leaking throught my windows. I placed a plastic sheet to keep the cold air off. The plastic was bulging from the pressure of the cold air trying to leak into my dining room. With the cost of heating the house, I think it's time to get things changed. Goodby to the red 2006 Honda Civic Si and hello to one of the best windows and sliding doors.

I was so excited that I didn't get to sleep the whole night. I have to call in sick. It's okay, I slept the whole day today. The salesman said he will call me this evening to see if I qualify to finance the windows and doors. Unfortunately, he didn't call so I don't know what happened.

I went back to the Goodfeet store I bought my shoe inserts from. My right foot continues to hurt with sharp pain shooting from my foot. It feels like nails puncturing my sole. The sales lady told me that I can't be wearing the built in padding from my Asner shoes. She helped me take them off and the shoes and insert feel great already. She told me that two sheets of paper can set of the inserts off. Wow, that's how misaligned my body is. So, ever since I took off the paddings, my feet feel great already.

The big four oh.

If I base my life on my parents' logevity, I will be dead in twenty years. 20 yrs is not very long. Hopefully enough to see my nieces get married if they marry in their 20's. There are a lot of ifs to consider but that is not a way to live. There are a lot more lives to touch and help in the next twenty years.

Someone circulated a Bible passage around work to boosts morale. Deuteronomy 15:10:
10So give freely to those who are needy. Open your hearts to them. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all of your work. He will bless you in everything you do.

Believe me, sometimes it takes something biblical to get myself back into the groove.

Working registry has it ups and downs. I don't get the benefits of paid vacation and health insurance. On the other hand, I don't have to attend unpaid staff meetings., I pick my own work schedule, I'm not part of work politics, if I don't like the hospital, I don't have to go back.

One hospital was already telling my boss they like me, unfortunately, I really don't like driving there. Oh well.

Yesterday I went out with my buddy from nursing school. We spent the first 30 mins talking about how mentally messed up his wife is. He later on apologized but I told him it's no big deal. He needs to release his stresses and I'm there to support him. J is a great guy who happened to marry a peculiar woman. I wouldn't wish anything like it to even my worst enemies.

We went to Hooters last night. I swear those short shorts are even shorter now. The chicken wings are very good but the girls singing wasn't. I did enjoy them standing up on the stools and dancing. whoohoo.

Later on we went to a Honda dealer, just another attempt to piss off a sales manager. I test drove a 4 door Civic. I told the guy I'm looking for a red two door EX coupe. The sticker price was $21,100 and after several wheeling and dealing, I was able to get the price down to $19,500. They insist that I buy some grey colored car. I wanted a red one to replace my hatchback (a ploy). J made sure that I insist on a red one. The wierd thing was they keep telling me that it's hard to get a red one but the Civic catagolue and t.v. ads show a red car. What shit is that?

SF birthday.

I flew to SF for my birthday. Airfare is very affordable so I left my buddy Sargent to the Pet Castle Resort and off I went to SF. I love flying now that the fares are so cheap. It used to be $400-500 for a two way trip. Now it's between $120-170.

Upon arrival, my sister in law picked me up and we had lunch in an Italian deli in Oakland. Yummy stuff. Then we took the BART (Bay area rapid transit) to SF. We went to the MacWorld convention. It was a great event. I was able to check out the newest dual core Intel powered Macs. The Aperture was also great but after reading the reviews by actual users, I think I' ll stick to my old Photoshop 7.0 for now. I actualy need a new computer for the Aperture software. I bought an iPod arm band and a gizmo to spool excess wire around the computer desk.

Later that evening, we went a to fund raising play. I took video and shot some pics. After the play, we went for dinner is some high class chinese restaurant.

Over all, my bday was a 10. Best in recent memory.
